Ballet Music to Explore New Possibilities on the Piano!
Yoko Kikuchi won the first prize at the Mozart International Competition in 2002 and attracted widespread attention. She has become one of Japan’s most popular and accomplished pianists.
While continuing her international career, she developed a passion for collaborating with ballet after performing with the Vienna State Ballet. In March 2026, she recorded the album Ballet Fantasy.
The program will be centered on works from her album, featuring the music she wishes to share most with everyone. Rather than piano accompaniments for ballet lessons, the program consists entirely of concert works arranged by other composers and master musicians. The highlight of the second half is Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker arranged by his favorite pupil, Taneyev. The arrangement was so notoriously difficult that Tchaikovsky himself is said to have complained about it.
Experience Yoko Kikuchi’s explosive artistry!
